Bulk Excavation

Large-scale muck shift under a managed haulage plan, dug down to formation level and away off site without the lorries taking over your programme.

Overview

Getting the volume out without losing the programme

Bulk excavation is as much a logistics job as a digging one. The dig itself is straightforward; what decides whether it runs is the haulage plan — how many wagons, on what route, at what times, and where they turn round without blocking everyone else on site.

We plan that before we mobilise, then dig to formation with levels checked as we go, so the foundations gang is not waiting on a re-dig.

Managed haulage Routes, timings and turning planned before we start
Volume planned, not guessed

Quantities taken off your drawings so the wagon count and the cost are known up front.

Arisings reused on site

Material kept and re-used wherever the specification allows, cutting movements and cost.

Neighbours considered

Wheel wash, road sweeping and timed movements so the haulage does not land on the street.

What’s included

What a bulk excavation package covers

Scope is taken from your drawings — this is what it usually contains.

Bulk dig to formation

Excavation down to the levels on the engineer’s drawings.

Muck away

Removal off site under a managed haulage plan, tracked and documented.

Cut and fill

Re-use of suitable material on site to balance levels.

Deep excavation

Basement and below-formation digs with temporary support where needed.

Dig for substructure

Trenches for ground beams, pile caps and service runs.

Formation protection

Capping and blinding so the formation is not spoiled by weather or traffic.

How we deliver it

How a bulk excavation package runs

The same sequence every time, so you know what happens next and who owns it.

Step 1 of 5 Take-off and haulage plan

We measure the volume from your drawings and set the wagon numbers, route and timings before anything moves.

Step 2 of 5 Site set-up

Access, turning areas, wheel wash and segregation put in so haulage never blocks the rest of the site.

Step 3 of 5 Bulk dig

Excavation to formation with levels checked as the dig progresses, not after it.

Step 4 of 5 Muck away and re-use

Suitable material re-used on site, the rest removed and tracked off under the haulage plan.

Step 5 of 5 Formation handover

Levels confirmed, formation protected and signed off ready for the substructure.

We take the volume off your drawings, allow for bulking, and set the wagon count against the programme. You get the number up front, so the haulage cost is not a surprise halfway through the dig.

Wherever the specification allows, yes. Re-using suitable arisings cuts both lorry movements and cost, and it is usually the single biggest saving available on a dig of any size.

We stop, tell you the same day, and price the change before we carry on. Service searches and a site survey before mobilisation mean this happens far less often than it might.

Yes. Haul routes, timed movements, wheel wash and segregation are planned so the dig stays clear of whoever is still using the site.

Yes, where the dig needs it. Temporary works are planned and checked to the relevant British Standard rather than improvised on site.
